VI. DURING EXPEDITION

  • Receive core and assist as needed in the core lab (i.e. splitting, restocking, boxing core, disposing of trash, and general cleaning and maintenance of core lab). Remember, the core lab is your primary duty and imaging duties must come secondary to that unless arrangements are made with the Lab Officer to meet special objectives.
  • Calibrate monitors and printer in the imaging office
  • Shoot video as required
  • Photograph any needed PR or engineering photographs as requested. Maintain Metadata for the still images, which were density-color corrected and transmitted to shore. Blanket append all meta data for all the raw images using Bridge Templates or other suitable means to identify every image with at least the expedition number, organization, place, and creator of the images with copy right and contact information (agreed terminology is photographer's name, IODP JRSO or the organization that applies).
  • Interface with the sailing Publications Specialist and the Staff Scientist and create weekly images to be transmitted to shore to the IODP Webmaster. This task should be limited to approximately 8 hours a week.
  • Perform all necessary cleaning and maintenance on machinery and equipment
  • Maintain inventory by monitoring quantities and performing physical counts. Notify the ALOs if any quantity discrepancy or unusual high usage occurred.
