This is the parent folder for all Stratigraphic Correlation Support (SCORS) user guides.
Unlike most JOIDES Resolution applications and their user guides, SCORS tools are not only used on the JR, but also on shore where users prepare for upcoming expeditions, follow up on recent expeditions, or work with any legacy data.
Within the current Confluence user guide editing and delivery framework, changes to user guides are made on the ship and the latest versions are copied to the read-only repository on shore after each expedition. This makes editing from shore rather cumbersome. We have essentially two methods:
- Sign in to the ship server from shore - this requires restricted access and tends to be slow.
- Download the latest version from the read-only server on shore, make 'track-changes' type edits, and send them to a staff member on the ship to implement.
While the original author, Peter Blum, is still the de facto custodian of these applications, he appreciates being notified of any changes made to the guides by shipboard staff.
One day we will hopefully operate a cloud-based documentation systems that offers continued offline service if the Internet connection is compromised.
